Review
BMW 1-Series (04 - 11)
This divided opinion when it first hit the road but it is a testament to BMW that they went on to make a real success story of it. Over the years it has become popular here with a lot of them now on our roads. It comes as a hatchback and coupe and is highly practical. There is a nicely designed cabin with comfortable seats, soft-touch materials and a fine central console. It is one of the most refined and stylish cabins in its class. On the road, it handles well; the steering is excellent with lots of feedback and there is good grip even on wet surfaces. In general the ride is quite smooth, but with the run-flat tyres it can feel a bit firm. Many people see that as a plus.
Look out for
• Watch out for kerbed alloy wheels; quite common in this car
